Exercise 4
Calculation of number of plants in different systems of planting
Q.1. Calculate no. of orange fruit plants in square system of planting in 1.5 hectare area, if the row to row and plant to plant spacing is 6X6 m2.
Solution:-
Area in meter
No. of plants = _______________________
Planting distance in meter
Where, Area = 1.5 hectare or 15000 m2
Planting distance = 6X6 m2
Hence,
15000 15000
No. of plants = ____________ = _______________
6 X 6 36
= 416.66 = 417 Plants
Result:- In 1.5 ha. area 417 orange plant is required.
Q.2. Calculate no. of mango plants in the rectangular system of planting in 5000 m2 area, if the row to row spacing is 10 m. and plant to plant spacing is 8 m.
Solution:-
Area in meter
No. of plants = _______________________
Planting distance in meter
Where, Area = 1/2 hectare or 5000 m2
Planting distance = 10X8 m2
Hence,
5000 5000
No. of plants = __________ = _________
10 X 8 80
= 62.5 = 63 Plants
Result:- 63 mango plants will be required in a rectangular system of planting in 5000 m2 area.
Q.3. Calculate no. of orange and papaya plants in quincunx system of planting in 1 hectare area, if plant to plant and row to row spacing is 6X6 m2
Solution:- As the plants are planted additionally in the centre of the square, hence first, the no. of plants are calculated for square system of planting which is:
Area in meter
No. of plants = _______________________
Planting distance in meter
Where, Area = 1 hectare or 10000 m2
Planting distance = 6×6 m2
Hence,
10000 10000
No. of plants = __________ = _________
6 X 6 36
= 278 Plants
Additional plants = (No. of rows lengthwise –1) X (No. of rows width wise -1)
In 100×100 m2 field if the planting distance is 6×6 m then the number of rows length-wise and width-wise will be 16.
Hence, No. of plant = (16 – 1) X (16 – 1)
= 15 X 15
= 225 Plants
Result:- 278 orange and 225 papaya plants will be required in the quincunx system of planting for 1 hectare area.
Q.4. Calculate no. of papaya plants in hexagonal system of planting in 1 hectare area, if plant to plant and row to row spacing is 10 m.
Solution:-
Area in meter
No. of plants = _______________________
Area occupied by single tree
- In this system, each tree occupies a parellogram area
- Each parallelogram consists of 2 equilateral triangles.
- The area of each parallelogram consists of 2 equilateral triangles.
- The area of each equilateral triangle is 3/4 X a2
- Where a is the length of a side of a triangle ie. Spacing between the trees in a row.
So a tree occupies = 3/4 X a2 X 2
If the spacing is 10 m i.e. a
The area occupied by a single tree is = 3/4 X10X10X2
=86.60 m2
Area of the land = 10000 m2
10000
No. of plants = _________ = 115.47 = 116 Plants
86.60
Result:- 116 papaya plants will be required in a hexagonal system of planting for 1 hectare area.
